This month we had our big family vacation to Northern California. We spent a week traveling up the coast from Monterey to Mendocino. Silas got to go camping in a tent, see the fish at the Monterey Aquarium, go across the Golden Gate Bridge, and see the Skunk Train at Fort Bragg. Here are some pictures from Silas's big trip.
First stop: the Monterey Aquarium.
We worked the trip around Silas's scheduled annual MRI at UCSF. He has to do one each year, and the last one was exactly one year earlier to the day. He was sedated for about two hours while radiology scanned his head and spine. Afterward, we met with Silas's neurosurgeon to review the results and compare the images with the scan from last year. Everything looked great. His doctor found no new issues and said he didn't see anything that in his opinion would prevent us from moving toward decannulation this fall.
When we finally left the hospital that afternoon, the Golden Gate Bridge was just peaking out of the fog. Silas was more impressed by the birds and tourist buses, but he did get pretty excited about going over the bridge.
Our next stop was Bodega Bay, by way of windy and scenic Hwy 1. Then we headed up the Sonoma coast to visit friends and set up our campsite.
Silas loved camping in a tent and sleeping in a sleeping bag. He also loved splashing in the waves, pointing at birds and watching the ocean.
From Sonoma County we went to Mendocino and spent a day in Ft. Bragg, where Silas got to see the Skunk Train.
At the end of the week we spent a day in Anderson Valley and visited a winery, an apple farm, and the redwoods.
It was a fun trip with lots of great memories. Now we're back at home and getting Silas ready for his big decannulation, which we hope will be next month. We'll post more as soon as we hear.
