Best Foot Forward

Silas had another sleep study on Saturday and this one went much better. Silas was able to sleep through the night with his trach capped and with only a nasal cannula for a little extra oxygen. Since his pulmonologist is on vacation we won't hear the results until the end of next week, but we're hopeful that the last hurdle has been cleared for decannulation (removing the trach). It's not certain, but at least we're relieved to know that Silas did his best. He's had so many sleep studies now that he can figure out what's happening pretty quickly and knows he's in for an uncomfortable night. Fortunately, we were alone in the room and there was a TV (which we don't have at home), so Silas was plenty distracted while they covered him in probes and wires. Here's a picture of Dad at his best - wearing a nasal cannula and blowing bubbles at Silas while Silas laughs and hits them with his glowstick.

We haven't yet replaced the camera that was stolen in June, so these are from Mama's phone, but as long as I'm at it, here are two more pics from this summer that remind me of how much this dad loves his son.

Learning to use the potty.

Swings on the beach after work.

We'll post more updates soon because it's been a wonderful summer. It has been so rewarding to watch Silas blossom into a clever and fun little boy. He's growing in size, learning tons of new signs and words, babbles most of the day when his trach is capped, and loves anything that rolls, flies, or swims (especially when it is him).
