Silas is now four months old. February has been a big month, so we haven't been very good about updating the blog. Silas has had a busy month. We can't cover it all, but here's a quick update of pictures to fill you in on some of what he's been up to.
On February 5th, Silas had his first follow-up appointment at UCSF after his brain surgery, and he is doing great. His shunt appears to be doing its job. His ventricles are continuing to shrink down to their normal size, and he is happier and more alert than ever. His stridor is still an issue. It has still not completely gone away, but has gotten much better this month, and we're hopeful that in a few weeks it will be gone for good.
Silas is eating well, which is a good sign of his recovery from surgery. He is now over 16 pounds and in the 90th percentile for weight for his age. It's fun to see his arms and legs start to fill out. Picking him up is beginning to be good exercise.
His physical therapist was very encouraging at clinic this month. She thinks he is moving around really well and believes he will be able to walk, probably with the aid of braces.
He's as happy as ever.
Here's Silas getting ready to go for a stroll around the park with dad.
In the middle of the month we made a trip to Grandma's house with the family.
We had a fun weekend together. Most of us went up to the mountains to snowboard. Silas didn't quite make it to the snow, though. He seemed to be having some trouble with his breathing and so dad and grandpa spent the day with Silas at Children's Hospital Central California getting him checked out. The neurosurgeon ruled out anything serious, which was a big relief. (It turned out that he just had an upper-respiratory infection, and he's doing much better now.)
Silas got to hang out with Aunt Mindi.
Grandma and her grandkids.
We also made a little trip to the Cal Poly farm to see the new lambs.
We had a fun visit from the Tuckers.
And did a little hike above San Luis Obispo with them.
Silas loves to travel.
This month, mom also started back at work. Her office had a baby shower for her on her first day back, and baby Silas made a guest appearance. Here he is at the end of the festivities -- all partied out.
This Wednesday Silas will meet his new pediatrician here in town, and our next appointment at UCSF is this Friday. More updates to come...
