Heading Home

The day is finally here. We are leaving New Haven today and heading back to California. Silas had his final medical appointments this week, and all of his doctors think he's doing great, so we are cleared to head home this weekend.

On Wednesday we went back to Children's Hospital Boston for Silas to see his doctors there one last time. His neurosurgeon concluded that his ventricles are stable and perhaps even slightly improved over our visit last week. He gave Silas a clean bill of health and said we were OK to come back to California. We plan to come back to Boston to see him again when Silas is six months old (the age at which an ETV failure becomes statistically very unlikely).

On Thursday we met with our pediatrician, who agreed that Silas is in good health and was fine to have his 8-week immunizations. Silas tolerated his shots well and is now clear to fly home with mom. They will fly to grandma and grandpa's in San Diego this afternoon, and dad will follow with the car (trying his best to avoid the winter storm creeping in today).

We have had a wonderful four months on the East Coast, and we will miss our life and friends out here, but we are looking forward to being closer to friends and family back in California.

Here are some highlights of the last two weeks out here:

A Lifewater card brightens our day.

Silas's first play date with James, born in August to Janel (Sada's college roommate) and Matthew. Baby Silas, Janel has soooo many stories for you. And someday you'll be happy you have a friend in Jersey.

Silas, Bean can teach you so much about so many things, especially having fun.

It was so much fun to spend time with Bean and Bunnie (more college roommates) and their beautiful daughters. Ten years ago we all would have died laughing at the thought of this picture. Then again, we only did laundry once a semester.
