Silas has been up to everything this season. While swimming one day we discovered a tiny stream of bubbles coming out of his old trach site. If you know us well, you know we rolled our eyes and laughed. While we considered that being able to convince other kids he was part dolphin because of his blowhole would be awesome, it's best not to have a hole in one's neck if one can avoid it. We went back for another surgery to close it completely. Now that Silas is older and knows what's coming when we get to the surgical prep room, we are even more impressed with his bravery. It's not fun to watch your child resign himself to upcoming pain and discomfort, but it's humbling to see him accept it much more quickly and gracefully than you would. It's healing well.
Silas also had a test to help determine why he is still throwing up every day. The results are not very clear yet, but the study included Silas eating a radioactive egg before an hour of watching it move through his stomach. Since we planned to camp at Mt. Tamalpais that night, we asked if we should plan on him glowing in the dark. Turns out some radioactive eggs are safer than others, so no worries.
This season he is obsessed with airplanes and helicopters ("ha-wa-ti-tows"), speaks in complete sentences, counts to 20, sings his ABC's, and knows at least one airplane-related word that begins with each letter. I was trying to help him guess a surprise one afternoon (going out for ice cream) and asked him what starts with "i"? His answer: "Inspect!"
