The new KidWalk is here!

Big news! Silas's gait trainer/stander arrived this week. He hasn't quite gotten the hang of the one-foot-before-the-other kind of walking yet, but he has managed to do some nice bouncing, kicking, and standing in it. Now it's just a matter of time.

Cheese puffs are the incentive to move forward for now.
It's called a KidWalk and it has a bicycle-type seat that he can rest on if he needs to so he can use it like a wheel chair with the big wheels on the side, or he can work on standing and weight-bearing, but it's ideally designed as a gait-trainer so he can learn to start walking.

Here he is with his auntie and cousins learning to "stomp, stomp, stomp." Since his cousins were the ones who showed him how to scoot on his tummy, we're pretty sure they'll be the ones who will be able to teach him how to walk. It's exciting to see how big he looks and how quickly he's adjusting to being able to stand up with his new KidWalk.

In other news, Silas got a new play table last weekend. It was a fun wood shop project for daddy. This one's for playing with trains and puzzles or drawing.

Or airplanes! Zoom!

Silas is also starting to get some pretty long hair. Except for surgeries, he's never had a haircut.

On Monday we head to UCSF all day for Silas's big neurosurgery and ENT appointments. We're nearing the one-year mark on his trach and hoping to get good news about his vocal cords. We're praying they will decide he's ready to start in the direction of decannulation -- taking his trach out.
